Sometimes the video game, art piece, or 3D animation you’re working on is set in a fantasy world, or a cyberpunk future. Other times, it’s based in the real world and in the present day. KitBash3D has Kits no matter what kind of world you’re trying to create!
KitBash3D’s latest Kit is inspired by Hong Kong, one of the most densely populated modern cities in the world. It includes towering skyscrapers, construction sites, hidden alleyways, and graffiti-lined streetscapes, and gives 3D artists and creators 322 modular models to use in their preferred 3D creation software — Blender, Maya, Unreal, and more — to create a realistic, vibrant metropolis.
One of the artists putting this Kit to use is Najeeb Najjar, who also created the cover art for the Kit. We spoke to Najjar about his inspiration for the cover art, what he likes about the Kit, and why Wacom products are essential to his creative process.
How did you get started with creating 3D art?
I’ve been a digital concept artist for eight years. I used to paint and do matte painting a lot. But, then I started to incorporate 3D into my workflow as an environment artist, which helped me a lot to grow.
What are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?
I’ve done a lot of projects throughout my career, but my favorite one was working on the film Uncharted with DNEG. The best one is yet to come, though — working on a feature film that I can’t yet mention, with my favorite studio, TerraForm, and the great team we have.
What tools do you use to create your 3D artwork?
I used Blender, which is my favorite software to render in. I use KitBash Kits for the whole scene, and then I also use Adobe Photoshop with my Wacom Intuos for the final artistic touches.
I have been using Wacom for eight years now. I started by using Bamboo, and have been using a Wacom Intuos medium for three years now. Wacom is the best, honestly. What a great companion! It never lags during the process, it’s very smooth, and the sensitivity is the best.
What do you have planned for the future?
I have a lot of great projects coming up, both personal and with the studio I’m working with, TerraForm. Unfortunately I can’t say more right now!
